Man Accused Of Dismemberment And Cannibalism After Apt. Search In Mexico

Note: The following story contains details that some may find offensive and disturbing. Discretion is advised.

Jose Luis Calva fancied himself a horror writer. But what police in Mexico City claim he did is beyond what any author could properly pen. The 40-year-old is under arrest after police looking for a missing person allegedly found pieces of his girlfriend’s body scattered all over his apartment. Cops claim they discovered a woman’s torso in his closet, bones in a cereal box and a leg in his refrigerator. There was also said to be evidence that Calva had boiled some of the flesh, but hadn’t eaten any of it.

The case first surfaced Wednesday when local police were asked to check on the whereabouts of a 30-year-old pharmacy clerk and single mother, who was known to be Calva’s girlfriend. But authorities claim the suspect tried to flee when they showed up, running from his interrogators before being hit by a car and getting seriously hurt. He remains in hospital and has so far been unable to answer any questions.

Police made the gruesome finds – including more body parts – as they searched his residence, and now wonder if Calva may have been involved in the deaths of three other women, whose mutilated remains had previously been found in the city. Authorities are familiar with the man – one of his ex-girlfriends was found dead in 2004. But cops couldn’t make any connection to the suspect at the time.

Calva’s home yielded yet one more clue that could prove useful as detectives try to figure out his mindset. It’s the draft of an unpublished horror novel he was working on. The title: “Cannibalistic Instincts.”
