Recalls of toys from China over lead fears.
Food contaminated with salmonella.
Cribs that can choke an infant.
All those products and more have been the subject of endless recalls lately, leaving consumers scrambling to try and keep up with them all. The U.S. has long had a central repository for the information – the Consumer Product Safety Commission.
But if Canadians wanted access to the same databases that affect goods here, they had to do a lot of surfing and guessing to find them. Until now. The feds have finally put all that recall information into one place, officially introducing a new website on Wednesday.
It’s a joint effort between the health and agriculture department, encompassing both food and product warnings and recalls. You can search by name, date, or company moniker or choose your own keyword. And there are pictures of called back children’s products so parents can be sure the items they’re seeing are the ones in their kids’ toy chests.
And you can sign up for email alerts whenever something new is added.
