If you ever needed proof that people who allegedly commit home invasions aren’t rocket scientists, you don’t need to go any further than the City of Vaughan. A quick thinking mother single handedly defeated six men cops contend were trying to rob her in a crime that could have gotten more violent.
It started when the unsuspecting woman opened the door to her home on Noah Crescent in the Major Mackenzie-Highway 27 area around 9pm Monday night, only to be confronted by four masked and armed suspects. Three of the men forced their way in, while another stood guard outside. At least one pulled a knife and threatened the terrified victim, but she refused to panic.
Fearing the thugs would harm her young child, she tried a desperate ploy. She told the intruders her home was wired with video cameras and that every move they made was being taped. Somehow, she convinced them to go back outside and wait – and they did. As soon as they were out of her house, she locked the door, rushed to the phone and called 911.
Her husband pulled up in his own vehicle at that moment and observed two other suspects hanging around the property. All of them fled when they realized they’d been had, but the couple were able to provide enough good clues to let cops catch up to them after spotting a car that matched their descriptions.
Six people, the oldest 20, the youngest just 14, have all been charged with a range of offences, including robbery and wearing a disguise to commit an indictable offence.
No one in the home was hurt.
