Raptors Win Season Opener

While it looks like the same old tired story of mediocrity and dashed hopes for the Leafs so far this season, Raptor fans may have something to cheer about if the team’s early performances are any indication.   The Raptors played exceptionally well in the pre-season and they carried that success over into the regular season, winning their opener 106-97 against the Philadelphia 76ers.

Andrea Bargnani led the charge with 20 points while T.J. Ford had 14 points and 12 assists.  Chris Bosh, who was sidelined for portions of the exhibition season with a wonky knee, had 16 points, and Anthony Parker and Jose Calderon finished with 13 apiece.

Andre Iguodala led the Sixers with 23 points, while Kyle Korver had 20.

The game was closer than the score indicates.  The Raptors let a 22-point third quarter lead slip away as Philly moved to within one point with less than five minutes to go.  But Toronto showed their resiliency and grinded out the win to kick things off right.

The Raptors head to New Jersey to play the Nets on Friday, then host the Boston Celtics on Sunday.
