The Boston Bruins got off to a fast start when Marc Savard scored just 19 seconds into Thursday night’s clash against the Toronto Maple Leafs, and they finished strong when Peter Schaefer netted two third period goals. In between the Leafs did little to switch the momentum, and in the end the boys from Bean-town walked off the ice with an easy 5-2 win under their belts.
Bruins goalie Tim Thomas continued his impressive play between the pipes, stopping 34 shots in his ninth straight start.
Marco Strum and Glen Metropolit scored the other goals for Boston.
Kyle Wellwood and Alexei Ponikarovsky replied for the Buds, who have lost four of their last five and continue to disappoint.
“We didn’t play well, that’s for sure. We didn’t play a full 60 minutes,” Toronto’s Matt Stajan said. “They scored on their chances. We had a few miscues on their goals and it just wasn’t acceptable. We just weren’t good enough. We’ve got to play better than that, there’s no doubt about it.”
