It’s the first weekend of December which means the malls will undoubtedly be packed with Christmas shoppers hoping to get their holiday purchases bought early and parking will be at a premium.
That’s why Toronto police will be sending out parking enforcement officers to look for motorists illegally using accessible parking permits to get the spots closest to the entrance.
The blitz begins this Saturday, December 1, and runs all month long. Officers will be patrolling GTA malls and plazas looking for anyone taking advantage of the passes and ensuring that those who truly do need the spaces will be able to use them at one of the busiest shopping seasons of the year.
Police advise that the accessible parking permits are issued only to the person with the disability and that the privileges aren’t transferable to friends or family members. That means that unless the person named on the permit is being picked up, dropped off, or otherwise transported, the pass can’t be used.
Anyone using the permit fraudulently can be charged under the Highway Traffic Act.
