Citytv’s Annual New Year’s Eve Bash Taking Shape

What are you doing New Year’s Eve?

It’s not just the lyrics to a famous standard. It’s actually a question that comes up every year around this time. While there’s no shortage of things to do across the GTA on December 31st, there’s only one place that’s offering you big names and big crowds without you having to spend a single dime. It’s the annual Citytv New Year’s Eve party at Nathan Phillips Square.

It’s the 23rd go-round for the big bash that takes two years from start to finish. And this one promises to be every bit as incredible as the memorable ones from calendar changes past. Among the talent on tap: Grammy nominees The Great White T’s; Roz Bell; J Diggz and the cast of the hit musical “We Will Rock You.”

And they’re just the main attractions. Some of the expected 40,000 who turn up early will also get to see the pre-show live, with acts like Carried Away, Skye Sweetnam and the Midway State warming up the crowd – if not the temperature.

Plus you get to see BT’s Kevin Frankish in a tuxedo, which is definitely worth the price of the non-admission. He’s the co-host along with Dina Pugliese, Kathryn Humphreys, and of course, Gord Martineau. If that’s not enough to produce some fireworks, they’ll have those waiting in the wings, as well, for the moment the clock strikes 2008.

The set up for the stage for Monday’s alcohol-free show is well underway. The event begins at 9pm with the big party whipping the audience into a countdown-induced frenzy by 11pm. If you can’t get to the freebie you can still see it. This year, it’s airing on OMNI Television as well as Citytv – and that means you can watch it all unfold in high definition.

Miss it and you’ll be hearing about it for the next 365 days.
