Pulp Fiction Screenwriter Arrested In Connection With Fatal Crash

Oscar-winning screenwriter Roger Avary has been arrested in connection with a fatal car crash in Ventura County, California.

The 42-year-old Pulp Fiction scribe was taken into custody on suspicion of manslaughter and driving under the influence after midnight Sunday.

The single car collision claimed the life of 34-year-old Andreas Zini and hurt Avary’s 40-year-old wife Gretchen, who was thrown from the vehicle. She was taken to hospital in stable condition.

Zini, who was apparently visiting the couple from Italy, had to be cut from the car with Jaws of Life. He died later in hospital.

Avary was released of $50,000 bail – there was no indication whether he’d hired a lawyer. The screenwriter, who recently co-wrote the script for Beowulf, won an Academy Award with Quentin Tarantino for writing Pulp Fiction in 1994.
