Residents of a midtown neighbourhood were jarred from their sleep overnight by the sound of a stolen Hummer stretch limo tearing down their street.
The massive vehicle left a path of destruction along Inglewood Dr., near Mt Pleasant Rd. and St. Clair Ave. after 1am Friday.
Apparently a woman demanded a drive in the vehicle when the driver was taking a bathroom break. She was allegedly able to get behind the wheel, at which point the passengers got out, and then take off. The limo struck at least three other vehicles, one person, a hydro pole, and flattened some bushes outside a home before it came to a stop at the side of the road. Fortunately the victim wasn’t seriously hurt.
It also hit a home, waking the owner.
“(It) could have shot into my house at any moment,” Sam Liu notes. “It is a very heavy car and very powerful.”
Police officers searched the area and located a 20-year-old woman hiding in bushes nearby. Diane Hancox faces several charges including six counts of fail to remain at the scene of an accident, theft over $5000, and dangerous driving.
