You’ve heard of good vibrations? With apologies to the Beach Boys, it’s possible you could be picking them up and getting fit at the same time thanks to a contraption known as the Vibrogym.
It promises to give you the benefits of a full 90 minute workout in only 10 minutes, while exercising 100 per cent of your muscles.
“It increases your bone density, increases muscle mass, flexibility, posture,” said Vibrogym’s Amanda Mullis.
But can 10 minutes on anything ever really equal a full hour and a half? That depends on who you ask.
“I’m leery of any claim that can whittle down an exercise session to something that’s very, very short,” said University of Toronto Athletics Prof. Jack Goodman.
Goodman adds that while working muscles is one thing, the lungs and heart are much different beasts.
“If it’s purely a muscular stimulus than 10 minutes is better than nothing,” he adds. “But that’s not the kind of exercise that we’re trying to promote.”
As for what the Vibrogym costs in terms of dollars, it’ll run you about $75 for the first week with your instructor and $45 a week after that.
