Jays Wrap Up Dismal Road Trip On A High Note

The Toronto Blue Jays pulled off a 3-0 victory over the Boston Red Sox Thursday – a welcomed win considering the club’s dismal record of late.

The Jays avoided a three-game sweep by Boston, thanks in part to A.J. Burnett who allowed just three hits in just over seven innings. The starter has been playing well against Boston, improving to 4-0 against the team allowing just one run in sixteen innings over two starts at Fenway.

Scott Rolen smacked out an RBI single in the third inning to give Toronto a 1-0 lead and ended a 17-inning shutout streak by Boston starters.

Vernon Wells added another run with a sacrifice fly in the fifth and Alex Rios sealed the deal with his third homerun of the season in the seventh.

Toronto manager John Gibbons was tossed from the game in the bottom of the ninth after Coco Crisp appeared to fly out at the end of the game, but the second base umpire called a balk on B.J. Ryan and the Boston player was given another crack at the bat.
