Jays Win Second Straight

After coming off a bleak road trip the Blue Jays delivered a win in front of the hometown crowd Friday night, beating the Chicago White Sox 2-0 in their second straight victory.

Shannon Stewart provided the impetus Toronto needed early in the game. With two outs in the first he drove in the game’s two runs with a single – his fifth and sixth RBIs this season.

“It’s been different. You do something for 15 years one way and now all of a sudden they say we want you to do it this way,” Stewart said before the game. “When you lead off, I’ve been so set to take pitches trying to work my way on, now I’m not so comfortable. There are some pitches that I’m taking that I should swing at.”

Stewart, usually a lead-off hitter, was fifth in the batting order Friday.

“Some guys, their game is to swing the bat. My game has been moulded to get on base, average, some power here and there. When I’m down there in the order, it’s like, `Damn, maybe I should be swinging,”‘ he said.

The Jays started their seven home game stretch on the right foot following a disappointing 2-7 road trip. Friday night’s victory was Toronto’s fifth in the past 16 games.

Starter Shaun Marcum also had a strong game, pitching nearly seven innings and giving up just two hits and three walks.
