A truck driver has been killed in a tragic crash early Tuesday.
It occurred at about 5:45am, when the vehicle went off the ramp from southbound Highway 27 to Dixon Rd. The truck flipped onto the driver’s side.
The victim was alone at the time and was partially ejected and pinned under the vehicle.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The ramp from Highway 27 was closed as traffic services officers investigated.
“At those speeds on an on-ramp such as this, with the sheer weight and size of the vehicle, once that thing starts to roll, it’s almost impossible to get it back on the four tires again. So we are urging motorists, it doesn’t matter if it’s a truck or a car, to slow down,” cautioned PC Mig Roberts of Toronto Police Traffic Services.
No name will be released at the family’s request.
It’s unclear what precipitated the crash. Many GTA roads were wet in the early hours from the overnight rain. Police say there were a number of cars in the area at the time. If you saw anything, call Traffic Services 416-808-1900 or Crime Stoppers to remain anonymous 416-222-TIPS (8477).
It’s the 47th traffic fatality in the city this year.
