Former head of Greenpeace Canada and MPP for Toronto-Danforth Peter Tabuns has launched his bid for leadership of the provincial NDP party.
Tabuns, 57, threw his hat in the ring Sunday before an energetic group of supporters, declaring that he will build a `new energy economy’ in Ontario.
As leader, he said his top priorities would be creating jobs and dealing with the environmental crisis.
In the years leading up to the next provincial election, Tabuns said he will actively develop the NDP and build enough support to give the party ballast to win government.
Tabuns, the fourth to declare NDP candidacy, is a former deputy mayor of Toronto who championed smoke-free restaurants and bars during his time in office.
