A flap over the outsourcing of the province’s and the country’s flags to China has prompted a directive for them to be made at home.
The speaker of the Ontario legislature has stated that all Ontario and Canadian flags bought for MPPs must be manufactured in the country, and preferably in the province.
The opposition was up in arms this week after learning the souvenirs were being purchased from a Chinese company for $5 less than Ontario-made ones.
“It’s pathetic. It’s rude and insulting,” argued NDP member Peter Kormos. “This just boggles the mind. I can’t give this flag away in the riding of Welland, where so many workers have lost their jobs.”
The flags are purchased for politicians to hand out to constituents.
