Police Investigate Another Dog Poisoning In Mississauga

It appears to have happened again – another case of a deliberate dog poisoning in the GTA. This latest instance surfaced Monday night, after a 70-pound Weimaraner fell ill after ingesting something at Tom Chater Memorial Park in the Burnhamthorpe and Winston Churchill Blvd. area of Mississauga.

The animal apparently gobbled down some meat left in a yogurt cup that was also filled with windshield wiper fluid. The pet wound up very sick as a result of the ingestion but is expected to recover.

The park has been roped off while police investigate who left the material there. Dog owners in the area are being advised to be careful what their animals get into during walks.

It’s the latest scare for GTA pet owners, in what’s becoming an increasingly alarming series of events. Some of them are believed to be deliberate while others have been explained away.

In late March, there were several incidents that raised suspicions. Four dogs fell ill in Port Perry after taking in something at a local park. The substance turned out to be muffins laced with marijuana, the result of a local teen apparently trying to ditch the evidence of a party during his parents’ absence.

Another ill dog in Oakville ate a white powder and fell ill. It ended up being flour put out in a park by a running club.

One dog died and others were sickened after eating something at a Whitby green space.

A rash of dog poisonings in High Park raised an alarm last June .

And residents in Etobicoke faced a similar emergency with their own dogs in February 2008 .
