Three More Shootings Rock The City

After weeks of bloody violence that left some neighbourhoods in shock, city cops are dealing with three more affronts to your feelings of security in a place once known as Toronto The Good.

Police are investigating a trio of new shootings Tuesday night, all of them in North York. But unlike previous incidents, none has proven fatal.

The first took place around 5:30pm on Toryork Dr. near Finch and Weston Rd., where a 22-year-old man stumbled into a restaurant pleading for help. Cops quickly arrived and discovered the victim had been shot in the leg either before or after being dumped from a car that quickly accelerated and disappeared. His condition isn’t life threatening but he’s not cooperating with authorities.

The motive isn’t clear, but investigators hope to get a closer look at the wanted vehicle. It was apparently caught on security cameras from a neighbouring business as the people inside dumped the victim and roared off.

Just a few minutes later, cops were racing to an apartment building high rise, the scene of yet another dangerous discharge of bullets.

The projectiles flew at 2000 Sheppard Ave. W. near Jane, hitting a back door and apparently striking a man inside.

The victim staggered into the property manager’s office, where 911 was called. He’s been rushed to hospital with what are believed to be leg injuries.

“I just heard bang, bang, bang…there were five bullets that I seen on the ground,” said one resident.

Seven shell casings were eventually found on the ground and another three pierced the door. But who fired them and why remains a mystery.

Cops are hunting a suspect seen fleeing westbound on Sheppard in a White Nissan Maxima or Altima with tinted windows and a sunroof.

He’s described as a black male with an Afro hairstyle. He was apprently wearing some kind of camouflage.

Then around 8:30pm , there was yet another one. This time, sirens screamed to 180 Chalkfarm Dr. in the Jane and Wilson area, where someone fired a gun. Cops found shell casings in the lobby of an apartment building but it doesn’t appear there’s a victim.

Two men wearing masks were spotted fleeing the scene in a grey or silver coloured vehicle.

There’s no word on whether any of the shootings are gang related or linked in any way.

Four males were later arrested at 99 Mattson Road near Jane and Wilson, not far from the Chalkfarm Dr., shooting, after an officer was allegedly hit in the back of the head with a barbell.  He was left bleeding but conscious and has been taken to hospital.  There’s no word yet if the alleged assault was connected to the earlier shooting.

The latest episodes of gunfire and violence come just 24 hours after a high school student was shot to death in a field at Dundas and Scarlett Rd. In a recent spree of terrible and deadly violence, Adrian Johnston was the youngest, losing his life at just 14 years of age.
