Pens Eliminate Canes

RALEIGH, N.C. – The Pittsburgh Penguins are returning to the Stanley Cup final.

The Penguins completed a sweep of Carolina in the Eastern Conference final, with a 4-1 victory over the Hurricanes.

Eric Staal opened the scoring Carolina at 1:36 of the first period, but the Penguins went to the intermission with a 2-1 lead with goals from Ruslan Fedotenko and Maxime Talbot.

Bill Guerin made it 3-1 in the second period, and Craig Adams added a empty with just over a minute left.

The Penguins will play the winner of the Detroit-Chicago series for the Cup.

The Red Wings, who beat the Penguins in six games in last year’s final, have a three-games-to-one series lead over the Blackhawks.

That series resumes Wednesday in Detroit.
