David Carradine starred in hundreds of TV shows and movies over his long career. But it’s the end of his life that has brought the kind of plot twists you would never have expected in any of those shows.
The 72-year-old actor was discovered last week hanging in a closet in Bangkok, Thailand, where he was filming a movie. Initial reports of suicide gave way to lurid tales that his demise was connected to autoerotic activity, giving a sensational tinge to the tragedy.
And now the actor’s family is outraged again after photos of their loved one hanging from a rope appeared in a local newspaper.
The Carradines, a famed acting family in Hollywood, have hired well known lawyer Mark Geragos – who defended Michael Jackson and Winona Ryder, among others – and have threatened to sue any publication that runs the graphic pictures.
The family isn’t willing to take reports of what happened to the “Kung Fu” and “Kill Bill” star at face value. They’re asking the FBI to look into his death, suggesting it could have been the result of foul play. And they’ve hired forensic pathologists to examine the body on its return to the U.S. to try and get more clues about the sudden death.
An autopsy was performed in Bangkok, but the results of that examination may not be known for weeks.
Carradine was in Thailand filming a new drama called “Stretch.” He had several other movies lined up after that and friends say his career was back on an upswing and they don’t believe he would have taken his own life.
