Highway 400 Reopens After Motorcycle Crash

A serious crash has left a 65-year-old Barrie man in hospital and shut down a busy route for hours.

The southbound lanes of Highway 400 were closed just south of King Road for several hours starting at 11am on Saturday.

They have since reopened, but at the time, traffic was diverted onto King Road but it didn’t help matters much – vehicles were backed up all along Highway 9.

Aurora OPP officers believe that the single-vehicle collision was caused when the motorcyclist had to brake suddenly. Traffic had slowed in the area due to construction.

As the driver braked, the motorcycle went down and slid along the roadway.

The driver was rushed to Sunnybrook Hospital, where he remains in critical condition.

If you saw anything, call the OPP 905-841-5777.
