Famous People Players, the world-renowned black light theatre show performed by people with mental and physical disabilities was set to move into a new home on Evans Avenue in Etobicoke on Aug. 15.
But those plans have hit a snag when the city slapped the company with a bill for $160,000.
“They said there was a new development tax that just came into effect that day, May 1,” recalls Diane Dupuy.
With the city’s help the theatre is being allowed to pay that bill off over the next three years, but the payments have pushed up costs by $5,500 a month.
They’re now looking for supplies donations. Some have already come in, but with the curtain already pushed back a month, more is needed.
