A Brampton man has been charged with stunt driving after he was clocked approaching three times the speed limit.
After first spotting the driver in Caledon, the OPP finally stopped him around 3am Friday morning on Highway 10 at Mayfield Rd. in Brampton. Police say the accused, 28-year-old Harjinder Sekhon, was doing 210 kilometres in an 80 kilometre zone.
“It’s a speed you can’t tolerate on our roads whatsoever. It’s unacceptable in terms of public safety. That kind of speed, it’s sure death if there’s an object or something in the way that causes that driver to come to a sudden stop,” explained Sgt. Tim Burrows of the Toronto Police Service.
Under tougher legislation passed in 2007, police automatically impounded Sekhon’s Mitsubishi Lancer and seized his licence for seven days. He could also face fines up to $10,000.
