Missing 10-Month-Old Found Unharmed

A 10-month-old boy missing since Friday night has been found unharmed and the teen believed to have abducted him has been charged.

Authorities say between 7pm and 8pm, the 14-year-old girl took the toddler, Kamren Cunningham, from the Trethewey Drive apartment where she had been staying with the boy’s mother.

There are reports the teen convinced Kamren’s babysitter she had permission to take him, then collected his clothes and toys and left.

She was seen not long afterward pushing Kamren in a stroller and carrying a diaper bag.

“I was worried about the girl because she looked very distraught. She looked like she was a very ill person and the baby wasn’t even wrapped – so that concerned me,” described Care Ellis, a witness and area resident.

Kamren’s mother, Kirsten Cunningham-Samuel, was visibly upset.

“Last night was freezing. I felt sorry for homeless people. And my son who has a crib, who has a nice cozy home is supposed to be out on the road because this 14-year-old girl decided that she wants to play mom with my son,” she said.

Shortly after 4pm Saturday, both were located nearby in the Lawrence Avenue West and Weston Road area. Not realizing the situation, a Good Samaritan had apparently taken the suspect into her home, but notified police when she saw the story in the news. Officers arrested the teen and charged her with abduction.

She is due in court on Sunday morning, but cannot be named because she is a youth.

Police were originally treating the disappearance as a missing persons case but, after questioning Kamren’s mother, believed the child had been abducted. They were in the process of issuing an Amber Alert when Kamren and the suspect were found.
