Just north of Barrie, the Mount Saint Louis Moonstone resort reported five hundred skiers on its slopes yesterday, while skiers also headed for the Collingwood area with only some delays because of poor driving conditions.
North of Orillia, however, a section of highway 11 in the Bacebridge area was closed intermittently because of snow cover and whiteouts.
This morning, the Ministry of Transportation website reports highways in the region are generally bare and wet, some snow covered roads near Bracebridge and Parry Sound.
The Muskoka region gets an average of 87.6 centimetres of snow in December, but this first big storm of the season dumped more than a hundred centimetres in some areas.
The highest total recorded, 121 centimetres, is in Minden.
Some light snow is expected this morning, but that will be mixed with rain this afternoon in most cottage areas with daytime highs above freezing.
