A multi-million dollar home on Lauderdale Drive burst into flames Tuesday at around 4pm, prompting a three-alarm response that kept firefighters busy for hours on end, as flare-ups continued to cause problems throughout the night.
The home, which is near Bayview and York Mills, has suffered extensive damage, with up to 70 firefighters working to douse the flames. One was sent to hospital with minor injuries.
No other injuries have been reported.
The home’s owner, Mariam Dawoud, says the fire started when plumbers were inside working in the basement.
Residents in neighbouring homes have been evacuated.
An investigation is ongoing.
