30 people arrested in Toronto drug bust

A major crackdown on drugs and guns has landed 30 people in handcuffs in two west Toronto neighbourhoods.

For the past three weeks, dozens of Toronto police officers have been targeting crime in the Keele and Eglinton area, and the Jane and Finch area.

During the investigation, police seized 240 guns and hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of drugs, including marijuana and cocaine.

Meanwhile, Toronto police reported 16 shootings and four murders in these neighbourhoods in the first five months of 2009. As a result, 75 TAVIS police officers were sent to patrol the areas this past summer.

Since then, police report only one shooting and no homicides.
