Cujo Retiring From NHL

Former Toronto Maple Leafs goalie Curtis Joseph will announce his retirement from the NHL in a press conference on Tuesday.

Since starting his NHL career in 1989, the 42-year-old Keswick, Ont.-native has played 958 regular-season games over 19 seasons with St. Louis, Edmonton, Toronto, Detroit, Phoenix and Calgary.

He has appeared in 133 playoff games, reaching the Eastern Converence finals in 1992 and 2002 with the Leafs. He won an Olympic gold medal with Team Canada in Salt Lake City.

Last season, Joseph served as Vesa Toskala’s backup, but left after the Leafs signed Sweden’s Jonas Gustavsson.

He leaves the game fourth all-time in wins by a Leafs goaltender behind Martin Brodeur, Patrick Roy and Ed Belfour.
