A Bay Street intersection was shut down for more than five hours on Thursday after massive panes of glass plummeted more than 20 storeys and shattered on the road below.
At about 8:30am, a piece of wood blew off a building on the north side of King Street and smashed into windows on the 27th floor of the Royal Trust Tower on the south side.
When police arrived on the scene, glass was still falling to the ground.
“It smashed about 10 feet away from us. It was extremely loud,” Sgt. Nancy Van Veghel described.
The wind gusts that were blamed for the incident continued for much of the day.
Police have since reopened the area to traffic.
