Stunning Admission In O’Keefe Murder Trial

One of the men accused in the murder of innocent bystander John O’Keefe admitted in court Tuesday he fired the shot that killed him.

Edward Parades and Awet Zakerias are both charged with second degree murder in the death of O’Keefe. Paredes is accused of firing his gun, at the urging of Zakeris, in the directing of bouncers who had kicked him out of the Brass Rail strip club. O’Keefe was walking outside the bar at the time and struck down by the stray bullet.

Despite his admission, Paredes says O’Keefe’s death wasn’t murder. The onus is now on the prosecution to prove he had the intent to murder, that he meant to kill, cause bodily harm and was reckless.
