If driving in the GTA wasn’t unbearable enough, this spring, it will get even worse.
A major makeover of the Gardiner Expressway starts May 2nd, which will lead into eight months of lane closures and restrictions.
“The Gardiner will be restricted to two lanes in each direction,” noted Peter Noehammer, the City’s Director of Transportation Services.
“There will be on and off restrictions in east- and westbound directions. There will be delays no doubt.”
680News traffic reporter Jennifer Young agreed.
“You reduce any major route, it’s going to cause a lot of impact – particularly the Gardiner. It’s heavily travelled to begin with.”
The federal government has earmarked $60 million in stimulus funds, upping the road repair budget for this year. The Don Valley Parkway and Lake Shore Blvd. will also be resurfaced.
