5-Alarm Fire

An early morning fire in the city’s downtown core quickly escalated into a massive 5-alarm blaze Saturday.
Firefighters responded to a call at a three-storey home on Lisgar St., near Queen St. and Dovercourt Rd. around 6:30 a.m.
Crews battled the blaze for hours, before finally knocking down the flames. Two firefighters suffered minor leg injuries after falling down the stairs due to the thick black smoke.
It’s believed careless smoking started the fire. There’s no word on damages.
