Canadians feel Do Not Call list working: poll

OTTAWA, Ont.  – A new poll suggests that Do Not Call listings sharply reduce unwanted telemarketer calls.

The Canadian Press Harris-Decima survey found that 36 per cent of Canadians have registered their landline on the list and 14 per cent have their cellphones covered.

Of these, 84 per cent said they weren’t being bothered as much by telemarketers, up four per cent from the year before.

Still, 12 per cent of registrants reported they were receiving more unwanted calls than before.

The research was commissioned by the Marketing Research and Intelligence Association, which represents polling firms exempted from the Do Not Call list.

The survey of 2,042 adults was conducted between Feb. 24 and March 8, and is considered accurate to within 2.2 percentage points, 19 times out of 20.
