Masters began with Woods comeback, ended with Mickelson win

TORONTO, Ont. – The Masters may have begun with a focus on Tiger Woods and his post-scandal recovery.
But four days later, it was all about the emotional story of Phil Mickelson’s third green jacket in a performance dedicated to his wife Amy, who is battling breast cancer.
The 39-year-old’s wife and daughters were there to support him during the tournament in Augusta, Ga.
This was Mickelson’s fourth major golf tournament win.
Meanwhile, early numbers suggest Woods helped to push ratings for the Masters up nearly 50 per cent.
This was supposed to be Woods’ big comeback, after he took almost five months away from the game trying to deal with a sex scandal that tore down his reputation.
Woods said he came to the Masters to win, but instead he said he kept hitting the ball worse. He ended the tournament tied for fourth.
One British paper said the 34-year-old looked like frustration was going to devour him at Augusta. He slammed the club into the turf as his hopes of a glorious return to the game slipped away.
Woods said he now plans to take more time away from the game to re-evaluate things, but didn’t specify how long that would be.
