OTTAWA, Ont. – MP Helena Guergis is not commenting on a media report that alleged drug use triggered her ouster from the Conservative caucus.
In an e-mail to the Toronto Star, Guergis said she can’t comment on allegations based on innuendo from anonymous sources.
But she said she intends to defend herself to the fullest extent.
Both the Star and CTV News carried stories about allegations that a private investigator passed to the Conservative party.
The investigator, Derek Snowdy, claims he came across the information while investigating Nazim Gillani, a business contact of Guergis’s husband Rahim Jaffer.
Snowdy claimed that Gillani boasted he had cellphone photos of Guergis and Jaffer “partying” with cocaine and high-priced hookers.
The CTV report added there is no confirmation that Gillani made those comments or has photos.
Snowdy said he went to the Tories out of fear of potential blackmail.
On Wednesday, Guergis dismissed talk of drug use, calling it ridiculous and an example of rumours gone amok.
Prime Minister Harper has asked the RCMP to look into allegations against Guergis, but has been tight-lipped on specifics.
