Construction begins on Canada’s tallest residential building, resides in Toronto

TORONTO, Ont. – When it’s all done, the new condo tower going up at Yonge and Gerrard streets will be the tallest residential building in Canada.

The Aura will stand at 75 storeys and 243 metres, changing the Toronto skyline.

Toronto Mayor David Miller and Councillor Kyle Rae, along with the condo’s developer, were at the College Park site for the groundbreaking.

“There’s a huge demand, this building sold out in a few days, you know, an extraordinary thing, at a time when the economy is not that strong,” Miller said.

The condo features 931 suites, which will total 1.3-million square feet.

It will also include an underground connection to the TTC, a future connection to the PATH system and retail stores at its base.

The building will also include luxurious penthouse suites at the top, which are currently priced at $17.5-million.
