MARS Building Evacuated

A medical facility in the city’s downtown core has been evacuated.

Emergency crews were called to the MARS Builidng, located at 101 College St., just after 10am on Tuesday.

Details are scarce but officials say they are dealing with hazardous materials. A crystallized chemical was found in one of the laboratories. Anhydrous acid is stable as a liquid but in its dried form, could become explosive.

The area was currently shut down from College Street to the north, east to Elizabeth Street, south to Gerrard Street and west to University Avenue.

No injuries have been reported and the area has since reopened.

Earlier reports misidentified the incident site as the Banting Building.
