Couple Wanted In Valencia-Russo Murder Extradited From Mexico

Two people have been charged with murder in the 2009 death of Consuelo Valencia-Russo.
On Thursday May 6, Ana Laura Rodriguez, 20, and Juan Antonio Reyes were brought back from Mexico City by Toronto police. They were both charged with first degree murder.
Valencia-Russo, a 44-year old single mother and French teacher, was found dead on July 9, 2009 inside the trunk of her car in the Jane St. and Sheppard Ave. area.
Her debit and credit cards had been stolen and accounts later accessed from outside the country.
Security cameras captured images of Rodriguez and Reyes. Police issued warrants for their arrest days later and began the extradition process.
It was soon learned the pair had returned to Mexico and had been renting a condo in the same building as Valencia-Russo’s ex-husband, Alex Carrillo Baquero.
They were scheduled to make a court appearance Friday morning.
Valencia-Russo had a child with Toronto city councilor Cesar Palacio. In a statement Friday, Palacio said “Even though this news brings a tremendous sense of relief to the family, it also brings sadness as we remember this horrible crime that is still difficult for us to accept…Hopefully once justice is served we can move forward.”
