TTC Bus Operator Charged With Impaired Driving

A TTC operator was charged with impaired driving Wednesday evening and on Thursday the union that represents transit employees said the man had been affected by a medication prescribed by his doctor.
Zvi Domb, a 47-year-old bus driver, is barred from operating a vehicle until his court date June 24 as a condition of his release after police charged him with impairment caused by a drug while on shift Wednesday evening.
Officers at 32 Division received a tip from a citizen around 6pm about a bus driving erratically on Senlac, just south of Finch Avenue. Police tracked down the TTC vehicle, which was reportedly empty at the time, and conducted a roadside test. Domb was then taken to Traffic Services for a sobriety drug test.
Authorities have made no indication as to what kind of drug he had allegedly taken, which could reportedly range from allergy medication to an illegal substance.
Amalgamated Transit Union Local 113 President Bob Kinnear issued a statement regarding the charge Thursday.
“[Domb] was apparently affected by doctor-prescribed medication he had been taking for several months. He had not been advised that his medication might cause impairment. There had been no prior indication of impairment from the medication. A medical investigation is underway to determine the nature and specific agents of the impairment,” Kinnear said.
“No member of the public was affected by this incident. As it involves a medical condition, we ask that the media respect his privacy pending his court appearance.”
This incident comes two months after another TTC bus driver had her licence suspended after allegedly hitting the warning range during a roadside breathalyzer.
The TTC also went into damage control mode earlier this year after a collector was caught sleeping in his ticket booth and another bus driver was caught on camera apparently taking an extended and unscheduled coffee break.
