12-Year-Old Ajax Boy Facing Gun Charges

A 12-year-old Ajax boy was arrested and charged on Thursday May 20th, after police allege he was carrying a loaded handgun.
The boy, who cannot be named, was reportedly seen with the weapon near Smith Lane in Ajax. Concerned citizens called police, who arrived on the scene and spotted the suspect riding away on his bicycle.
According to police, the boy was stopped on Epps Crescent, and proceeded to reach into his waistband. The officer was forced to pull out his own weapon, after which the boy was ordered to drop the gun. He allegedly threw the gun over a fence and was arrested without further incident.
Police believe the same boy was responsible for a store robbery the day before.
He is facing 19 charges, including Robbery, Careless Use of a Firearm and Weapons Dangerous.
He was held in custody for a bail hearing.
