Two RCMP officers stabbed in Calgary

Two RCMP officers who work for Alberta’s police investigative were stabbed in a downtown Calgary building Tuesday morning.
RCMP Supt. Randy McGinnis said it happened during a struggle in an interview room at the offices of the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team.
Calgary police Duty Inspector Vic Trickett said a man in his 30’s, who is previously known to police, showed up at the office and asked to speak with an officer.
He was escorted to an interview room, where he pulled out a knife.
One plainclothes RCMP officer, identified as Sgt. Andrew Johnson, was taken to hospital in serious condition with three stab wounds. His condition was upgraded to good following surgery, but he still requires another operation.
The other had cuts to his hand and is said to be fine.
Calgary police say a suspect is in custody. However, no audio or video was running in the room when the stabbing took place, as the meeting was not a formal interview.
The investigative unit, called ASIRT for short, reviews incidents or complaints involving serious injury or death that may have resulted from the actions of a police officer.
