Red Alert Issued After Possible Tornado Hits Midland

Officials have issued a red alert for all of southern Ontario after a possible tornado touched down in Midland Wednesday evening.
There are reports of injuries and damage after the storm hit around 7pm.
The town’s mayor has declared a state of emergency. Residents reported seeing funnel clouds, strong winds and property damage.
Environment Canada has issued a tornado warning for Uxbridge, Beaverton and Northern Durham Region. Another tornado warning has been issued for northern Peterborough County and northern City of Kawartha Lakes, along with a watch for Windsor, Leamington and Essex County.
Reports claim that Smith’s Trailer Park and Camp, along with Little Lake Campground have been destroyed, possibly injuring residents.
The exact number of injured people isn’t known, but York Region Paramedics have been dispatched to the area.
Midland sits about 150 km north of Toronto. Its estimated 150-200 homes were affected by the storm.
The red alert is for all of southern Ontario, bordered by Minden to the north, the Brock to the south, Ramara to the west, and Havelock to the east.
“Everyone in this area, including motorists and boaters, are required to go indoors now and seek shelter. Close all doors and windows,” it says.
The alert is in affect until midnight.
