Novotel Employees Will End Strike Before G20 Summit

About 80 Novotel employees represented by the union Unite Here Local 74 walked off the job Thursday and some of them rallied in front of a giant inflatable rat placed outside the hotel.
But later in the day, they asked for a return to the bargaining table and, either way, said they would end their strike on Friday before the start of the summit.
Workers are demanding wage increases and job security.
Members of the French trade delegation, French journalists and other dignitaries plan to stay at Novotel, near Union Station, during the international summit this weekend. The hotel is owned by the French company Accor, which operates several chains, including Motel 6.
Talks between the union and Accor broke down late Tuesday. Local 75 president Paul Clifford claims the company rejected the union’s only proposal after sitting on it for a month.
“Their shameful conduct in these negotiations is apparent for the world to see,” Clifford said in a statement Thursday.
