Some People Released From Eastern Ave. Detention Centre Sunday

As police rushed a crowd standing across the street from the temporary detention centre on Eastern Avenue, Bridget Wyrock sat on the grass unfazed and sorted through the clear plastic bag that contained her belongings shortly after being released from police custody.
The Cleveland, OH woman and her friend, a U of T student, were picked up by police Saturday night at King and Bay Streets and held overnight at the facility at Eastern and Pape Avenues, she said. She was released around 2pm Sunday.
“[Police] were actually very disorganized, that was probably one of the most surprising things,” Wyrock claimed. “We were in three different vehicles on the way here. We drove around for an hour, in circles around the city, probably because they have so many people to process they didn’t know what to do with us.”
Edward Canavan was released from police custody just before Wyrock. He said he was simply in the “wrong place at the wrong time.”
He was picked up by police on Queen Street West near Spadina, near the remains of the burnt police car. When the TTC shut down service in the area, he decided to walk to his Parkdale home.
“I was originally charged but then when they found I had nothing to do with anything, I was just at the wrong place at the wrong time,” he said.
Canavan was held in a cage at the detention centre since 2:30am Sunday. When asked about the conditions inside, he said, “Nice, oh yeah” and added he was treated well by police.
He also said it was quiet inside the detention centre.
“There was no rowdiness or nothing.”
