Man Dead, Suspect On The Loose After Shooting At Midland & Lawrence

An indoor car wash owner was shot and killed while working on Tuesday afternoon.   A suspect remains on the loose following the fatal shooting near Midland and Lawrence Avenue East.

The gunman reportedly opened fire around 1pm following a brief confrontation with the man. 

An employee at the car wash, who was working his first shift on the job, told CityNews what he saw.

“I heard bang bang bang three times,” he said.  “I never thought I was going to witness something like this in front of my eyes.  

“He knew this guy was trouble so he was trying to get him out of the place. He was trying to call the police, but I think this dude just turned back and shot him.”

Two area schools were locked down while police combed the area.  

A police command post has been set up in the area.

The suspect is described as:

  • Black,
  • Wearing a white shirt, black shorts

The victim, a middle-aged man, was rushed to hospital where he later died.

“There was an argument and shots were fired,” revealed Duty Insp. Reuben Stroble.  “We don’t know who the suspect is.  We have out ETF units search the area and we also have officers canvassing the area.”
