Many motorists ignoring hands-free laws

PICKERING, Ont. – Despite the hands-free law which has been in effect since early this year, many drivers continue to operate their vehicles while chatting on their cell phones without using a Bluetooth device.

Durham Regional Police reported issuing 94 tickets to motorists found holding or using cell phones while driving on a highway between July 24 and August 2.

Those who have been ticketed must pay an out-of-court fine of $125.
