Industrial accident in Vaughan kills man

A man, in his 30s, was killed after a construction accident at an office building in Vaughan, Monday.
It happened after a steel beam being moved by a crane became loose and fell on the man, who was working on the fourth floor of an office building under construction.
Fire officials were called to the scene at 610 Applewood Cres., located near Hwy. 400 and Langstaff, at around 1 p.m.
Vaughan Fire and Rescue Platoon Chief, Gary Fraser, told Rogers TV the crane was moving equipment all the time.
“They’re doing forming for the office building so it’s a combination of steel frames and concrete […]. They have a large crane here so they move steel on a regular basis.”
Fraser added another worker witnessed what happened.
“One person that must’ve been working in the area with him [was] distraught over the scene. I believe he was up on the fourth floor at the time.”
The construction site has been shut down pending the outcome of a Ministry of Labour investigation.
