Back-to-school spending to be on par with 2009

VANCOUVER (NEWS1130) – It looks like back-to-school spending patterns will be much the same this year, compared to recession-battered 2009.

Ipsos Reid has repeated a survey first done last summer, looking at how the weak economy affected shopping behaviour. Last year, it found people didn’t plan to cut their spending, but would be putting extra effort into finding coupons and deals, buying store brands instead of major labels, and shopping at thrift stores.

Ipsos says spending plans and expectations are virtually identical this year.
