CNE opens with crowds

TORONTO, Ont. – The 132nd edition of the Canadian National Exhibition, Canada’s largest fair, gets underway Friday.
The CNE officially opened at 10 a.m. and runs until September 6.
Over one-million people are expected to attend the 18-day fair.
It’s a big year for the air show with the 40th anniversary of the Snowbirds.
New this year at the CNE are painted colourful Muskoka chairs scattered around the grounds to help seat some of the 1.3-million visitors.
Amber Swedgan, a spokesperson at North America Midway Entertainment, visits about 150 fairs a year and told 680News why the CNE is special.
“It is such an international event, with not only our midway rides, featuring 60 rides, it’s the food, it’s the exhibits, it’s the shopping […], it’s the people,” Swedgan said.
The fair would not be complete without new delicious delights, such as fried butter balls, cinnamon rolls on a stick and deep fried mac and cheese.
Toronto police have advised people to take public transit to the CNE. The Jameson Avenue exit on the Gardiner Expressway remains closed, which means drivers will have to take Lakeshore Boulevard.
