BP Finally Plugs Gulf Well

It’s been a long five months for the Gulf of Mexico.
But the troubled region got some good news when BP announced it had finally, permanently, plugged a hole in an oil well that had been spewing crude into the water since April 20.
Retired Coast Guard Admiral Thad Allen says tests show BPs well “is effectively dead.”
Crews completed their final tests on the cement cap on September 19, sealing the well four kilometres below the sea floor.
The explosion at the Deepwater Horizon rig killed 11 workers and released millions of barrels of oil into the waters. The blast spurred a moratorium on all new U.S. offshore drilling.
It was the worst offshore oil spill in United States history.
