Police issue 13,000 tickets in pedestrian safety blitz

TORONTO, Ont. – Toronto police have released the results of its week-long pedestrian safety campaign.
Of the more than 13,000 tickets issued last week, more than 1,000 tickets were given to drivers for failing to stop at a red or amber light.
About 1,200 tickets were issued for improper left/right turns.
Nearly 1,500 tickets were issued for disobeying stop signs.
About 200 charges were laid against cyclists for riding in a crosswalk, and nearly 1,200 tickets were issued to pedestrians.
Police said so far this year, there have been 34 traffic fatalities.
